Hi Friend,

It's that time of year when we begin welcoming our seasonal friends and neighbors back to La Paz. It's an exciting time, with friends returning and others booking their trips, some for the first time, to visit this slice of paradise we call home.

As we write this, Hurricane Norma has just passed through La Paz as a Category 1 storm. Roads are flooded, there is quite a bit of damage downtown, and a lot of boats from the marinas were either destroyed or washed up on beaches. It's a bit of a mess, but it is so inspiring to see how our community comes together to help each other through these storms, and how quickly our local crews and neighbors work to clean things up afterwards. Here in El Centenario, we lost power for about 2 days, but CFE worked hard to get it restored as soon as possible. We don't get many direct hits from hurricanes here in La Paz, but these storms are normal for this time of year, and part of the price we pay for living in a coastal region.

Meanwhile, the real estate market remains hot, and we have several new listings coming on the market for sale. The new La Paz pickleball courts are taking shape at the San Juan Sports Club in Chametla, and there will be an informational meeting and a grand opening party on November 1st. We are excited to have this new facility in our neighborhood, and look forward to meeting more of our neighbors there this fall to socialize and play.

And finally, our good friends Bev and Rick Durvin at BCS Home and Pool are retiring and moving on to Todos Santos. We wish them a fond farewell and hope they enjoy their well-earned retirement! And we welcome Josie and Greg Smith, who are taking over BCS Home and Pool, and will continue to serve its clients with the excellent quality services for which the company is known.

Hurricane Norma Makes Landfall in BCS as a Category 1 Storm
La Paz and Los Cabos declared a disaster zone by BCS government
Hurricane Norma has come and gone, leaving a lot of cleanup work in her wake. Many roads are flooded and some areas are completely washed out. Dozens of boats from the marinas were damaged or washed ashore, and sadly many of the restaurants at the beloved Tecolote beach were destroyed. There is a lot of work to do now to clean up after the storm, but our local La Paz community here is so resilient, and work has already begun. Power, which was out for almost 2 days in most areas, is already back on in many neighborhoods, and crews are working around the clock to fix the roads and clean up downed power poles and debris. The governor of Baja California Sur has announced that the municipalities of La Paz and Los Cabos will be declared disaster zones, with the goal of providing the funding needed to help with relief efforts. In addition, there will be volunteer beach cleanups, and neighbors working together to help each other and restore the community. With a little patience and community spirit, we expect our beloved city of La Paz to be back to normal soon. If you would like to help, the International Community Foundation (ICF) is a registered US 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has set up a Baja California Disaster Relief Fund. 100% of your donation will support groups providing food, water, shelter and building supplies to people impacted by the hurricane.

La Paz Property Taxes
Pay your property taxes early and get a 35% discount.

Did you know you can pay your 2024 property taxes early and get a significant discount? Property taxes depend on the type and value of your property, but typically they are only a few hundred dollars, and are due in January of each year. Starting in November, you can pay your property taxes online and get a 35% discount if you pay before the end of November, and a 20% discount by paying by the end of December. And, if you are over 65 and have an INAPAM card, you get a 50% discount. To pay your 2024 property taxes, go to:
enter your Clave Catastral number (found in your fideicomiso), and you will see your property tax bill.

Saying Goodbye and Hello to Our Friends at BCS Home & Pool
Longtime El Centenario residents Bev and Rick Durvin are retiring, and Greg and Josie Smith will take over their property management business.
Bev and Rick Durvin and their property management business, BCS Home and Pool, have been well known and regarded here in La Paz, and especially in our local community of El Centenario, for many, many years. Bev and Rick were some of the first residents to build a home in the then-new master-planned community of Haciendas Palo Verde, and rallied to help many of their neighbors when Hurricane Odile hit in 2014. Since then, Bev and Rick have welcomed many new neighbors to El Centenario, generously sharing their wealth of experience and local knowledge. Their property management business, BCS Home and Pool, has helped dozens of clients throughout El Centenario and La Paz manage their homes, their pools and their rental properties. We personally benefited from their experience when we moved here with a thousand questions about how to do this and where to find that, and from their willingness to introduce us to new friends and neighbors. As friends, we've enjoyed many adventures together, from off-road UTV trips to snorkeling at remote beaches to visiting the wineries of Valle de Guadalupe. Now, Bev and Rick are retiring, and moving on to Todos Santos to enjoy their future endeavors. New La Paz Pickleball Courts Set to Open in November
12 new pickleball courts and a new padel court are nearing completion at San Juan Sports Club, and 4 new courts are now open at Baja Tennis Club.
The new pickleball courts, upgraded tennis courts, and one padel court are nearing completion at San Juan Sports Club in Chametla. The La Paz Pickleball Club will be holding an open house information meeting at the club at 3:00 p.m. on November 1st. The board members will explain how the new club will be run and be available to sign up more memberships starting at 4:30 p.m. At 5 p.m., (immediately following the meeting) there will be a Grand Opening celebration with drinks, snacks, games, music and pickleball. In addition, Baja Tennis, on 5th de Febrero, just celebrated its grand reopening with 4 new pickleball courts. So, for those looking for extra places to play pickleball in La Paz, you've got options. La Paz is becoming a true pickleball destination!
